In Ferro Veritas — Know Your Place

I would like you to read the following passage, consider if it is something that could be said of you, and if not then whether you need to broaden your horizons by paying more attention:
Some of the greatest Teachers I’ve ever had lived under rotting logs, swarmed me out of a half buried and long abandoned paint can, or charged me with horns lowered. Still others accepted and tolerated my presence for reasons of their own, and coming forward I will not limit my quest for knowledge to its delivery from those of my own Tribe. ~ To Sting or Not to Sting
Continue now to this rumination on the symbiosis of Predator and Prey, holding True whether or not you choose to participate:
The Hunter, likewise a part of the forest and regardless of species, is not alone in his predation, for the imperatives of competitors, his own kind and others, must be recognized and understood …
… Each seeks a quarry that evolution has imbued with an absolute oneness with its place in the scheme of things, and that lives its life not in the expectation of being hunted, but in the absolute certainty that it is being hunted at every moment. ~ On Hunting
Now, coming as we do from a species that has learned to substitute words for substance and expect absolution from consequences, there is this fundamental Truth on the subject of Communication:
Every creature in Nature must communicate, most importantly with those of its own kind, but only of slightly lesser importance is the requirement to do so with others, and the difference between the two is merely a matter of depth. Communication between like kind must encompass the full range of living. It will vary in complexity with the complexity of the organism’s needs, but at its basis will be the need to find a mate and procreate, as well as to define and express intention to defend domain. Communication with others of unlike kind may, in some cases, be as simple as a defensive display. This is in play when a Dog bares its teeth at you, a Bird swoops repeatedly at your head as you approach its nest, or a tiny jumping Spider raises its body with audaciously extended forelegs aimed at the tip of a pointing human finger.
Communication is at its most powerful when all extraneous noise is stripped away. Think on this. ~ Worldly Wisdom Wednesday – The Way of Communication
And lastly, there is this passage on the subject of attitude vs. actions:
Attitude and actions – of the two, which is more important? I would posit that actions, being a physical manifestation of attitude, are what truly matters. If you are smart but pretend to be stupid, then to the rest of humanity, your net effect on the world is that of one who is stupid. Thus, you will be effectively stupid, and treated as such, until you choose not to be. Similarly, if you choose to assemble your reality out of of half understood truths, half truths, and falsehoods you have accepted as truths, your actions will be inappropriate and ineffective when measured against the real state of affairs. ~ Worldly Wisdom Wednesday — Wise Is as Wise Does
With these seeds of meditation in hand, even if not fully grasped, sit back and absorb this lesson from Maestro Adam Crown in the matter of Benny and the Killer Kitten.
For sure. What you think you are can get you killed. Better to be what you are instead of thinking about it.
Good one.
