Diana Whynacht – Mrs. LFM
My incomparable Wife Diana – She who I routinely refer to as Mrs. LFM – is my muse and runs a one woman show as Large Fierce Mammal Webmistress, Editor in Chief, Photographer, and Research Department. She contributes behind the scenes, even if only by giving her stamp of approval to all the content that gets published here, and occasionally contributes articles in her own right. This tends to happen when she holds particularly strong opinions on a matter, the subject is best treated from a woman’s perspective, or both.
Diana was born in Poland, but came to Canada with her family when she was four years of age, and grew up in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Beautiful, brilliant, fierce, determined, tenacious, and absolutely competent in everything she does, she joined me in running Whynacht Security & Survival in 2003 where she works as our consultant in surveillance technology and IT security. A gifted dog behaviourist, she has been training and rehabilitating dogs since 2002, and continues to do so professionally with our other organization, Golden Mountain Dog Solutions.
All this and she’s a phenomenal cook fluent in three languages (not counting Dog). She’s my reward for something!

Bitey McBighterson
Adventurer, pundit, and Dog about town, Bitey was born in Ontario and grew up both there and in Portugal where he lived for a year doing body guard work and kicking ass before settling back in Nova Scotia. He joined the LFM team in December 2009, and finally consented to a staff position when he realized two things: 1) how badly a lot of the world needs a bite in the ass; and 2) so many deserving asses, so little time.
His monthly column – Al Dente (to the tooth) – will be Bitey’s springboard for delivering the kind of tune up that only an Australian Cattle Dog can provide.

Eric E. Noeldechen
Eric Noeldechen is a passionate outdoorsman with a cool last name. His advice on pronouncing it – Noel ( Christmas Noel) De ( De-triment) Chen ( Shen). Others pronounce it KnowElDeChen (at least that tells you where to put the acCENT so it gets on the right syllAble). Having gone through life with a last name like Whynacht, and Mrs. LFM having the maiden name of Kleszczynski, we both understand the weight of the cross he bears.
When I asked him for a bio to fill this space, this is how he explained himself: “Father of three. Heavily involved in Scouting and bringing Scouting back to what it once was; i. e., Outdoorsmanship.
Naturalist Outdoorsman/Fisher/Hunter/Gatherer, Artist (Metal Sculptor), Apprentice Bladesmith and Amateur Hugelkulturist.”
To that, I would add that Eric makes some hellishly good Concealex knife carry systems.
The picture Eric supplied came with his personal observation, “Kind of everything I like rolled into one…”

Troy Zwicker
I first met Troy Zwicker when I joined what was then called the Bridgewater Fencing Club, now the South Shore Duellists, in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, back in the last century. I came to know him as among the most aggressive épée fencers I’ve ever crossed steel with, and it was at that time his interest in the collecting of swords had its genesis, slightly confounded by his being only in his early twenties, and hence revenue challenged.
A score of years hence, the somewhat older and slightly more careworn Troy of the current era is happily employed as a faithful servant of Her Majesty, and now pursues his primary passions of sport fishing and the collecting of British military swords with vigour from his home in the backwoods of Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia.
