Our Kind of Guy!

Yesterday I had the brief, though always delightful, opportunity to converse with Debbie Scottcrnec (click here to read the origin of the name) whose husband Zac has the delightful propensity to buy her sharp pointy things as gifts. Zac follows us here, mostly because of his interest in the Blade Arts and what we have to say about them, but also because, not unlike his Wife, we’re all as cute as the dickens.
Anyway, Zac is a realtor hereabouts, and in a recent promotional video, had cause to reveal what he had given to his Wife for Christmas. Debbie promised to send me the link, and she was as good as her word. Now I’m sharing it with you. Enjoy!
Well its both surprising and a bit of an honour to have Debbie and myself mentioned in an LFM Piece! I honestly feel that a good sword is an appropriate gift for almost any occasion, and I am always in favour or arming one’s wife. Debbie’s first reaction when she opened up the box housing her Spadroon was to turn to the side and immediately run our old purple sofa pillows through several times. She claimed this was a test of the sharpness of the point – and also it finally gave her good reason to finally throw them away! That tells you alot about how Debbie operates – get too lumpy and piss her off enough and she might run a few feet of sharp steel through you! See, the sword WAS the Perfect gift! And Randy we still have to get together and push forward our un-set plans of (I think its now) 2 years ago! – Zac
Well now Zac, you are indeed preaching to the choir when it comes to the appropriateness of a good blade as a gift, and what I feel to be the absolute necessity of properly arming one’s Wife!
May I inquire as to the make of that weapon? Debbie also told me that you had made some grip modifications that were much to her liking.
I’m overjoyed that the emotions you felt at being exposed here included feeling at least a bit honoured. For some, it hasn’t always been thus.
We do need to blow the dust off our arrangements and actually set those plans. Once Winter releases her icy grip, and Spring is again in the air, let us proceed! I have written it down in my Bigge Booke of Things That MUST be Donne. My Factor will call upon your Factor!
One of the reasons I initially purchased this sword for Debbie was that it was light and the grip was quite small – which I thought may work well with Debbie’s small hands – because there are soooo many options that are no good for her due to weight, extended pobs, and especially the thickness of the handles. But once she started using it I noticed that it seemed to have no life in her hands: the grip was just too generic and fixed. So this winter I replaced the brass poured grip with an Applewood grip I cut from a tree in our backyard. I carved it so that it was a custom fit for her hand and have noticed a great improvement in the responsiveness of the sword. Even in my larger hands it now has a life to it. The sword is an 1840 NCO sword from Windlass weighing 1lb 12oz. and the pob has not really shifted much from its initial point of 3 7/16″ (and it’s not at all expensive, as I know Debbie would NOT at all be happy if I spent something like $500 on a sword for her..!). Its a good fit for who she is and what she likes, and now is a pretty quick and tricky sword!
Bloody hell, part of my daily routine is to hit multiple information sites – if folks fear exposure then I encourage you to strobe them in the eyes with the tactical flashlight that is LFM (ideally followed by something steely and sharp!)!
That sounds like a good plan – Spring it will be!
