Miss Ann and Me
Posted By Randy on March 2, 2011
From the deep dark LFM family archives comes this little goodie. 1961 was a passionate year for me, and here I am with the second of my great childhood loves; Ann Wilson, professionally known as “Miss Ann” of Romper Room.
Born Ann Ramey in Kentville, Nova Scotia in 1928, she hosted the Atlantic Canada version of the popular kid’s TV show through the 1960’s and 1970’s. I was 4 years old in this picture which would have made her 33.
Predeceased by her husband Ronald Wilson, Ann Wilson died in hospital of cancer on Monday, 16 February 2009 at the age of 80. Speaking on her career as Miss Ann, her producer/director Merv Hebb said, “When she was in front of the camera, she became bigger than life in her own way.”
She certainly attracted my attention. I could feel the warmth of her hand on my ribs for days, and forbade my mother ever to wash that sweater. I have always suspected she disobeyed me.
AAhh yes, I remember Romper Room, and the cutie from my generation!! 🙂
Randy even at 4! That’s impressive 😉
I began honing my skills early, which prepared me to properly romance the perfection I’m married to.
This is a great find! I watched this show quite a bit as a kid growing up in Grand Falls, NB. Any chance you know if there is any VIDEO of Miss Ann posted anywhere? I’ve contacted CHSJ a few times over the years to see what they have in their archives and received no response… which either means it’s all gone, or they don’t know, or they’re just too busy and understaffed to deal with this kind of memory lane stuff.
Wish you well! Thanks for posting this!

Thank you for your comment Marcel. I feel your pain at the dearth of archived imagery from the days of our youth. I too sporadically search the internet for any little scraps that may have surfaced, but considering the shows back then were shot on now long obsolete broadcast and recording technologies in the days before anybody would even care to archive a television program made for children, and home based video recording technology that might permit the viewer to capture favourite shows was still far in the future, I hold little hope.
That being said, I am happy I was able to give you what little enjoyment I could.
Thanks again!

Hi there. I too would l like to find any footage of the Miss Ann Show. I was on the show back in the late 70’s with my kindergarten class. I remember that there was a big stuffed teddy bear that I soooo wanted to have.
