One trail may run both smooth and straight,
Through vistas wide and clear,
So most may choose that one before
The branch that’s dark and drear.

The one that weaves through gnarly woods,
‘Cross rivers needing fording,
With promise of adventure laced
And evils needing warding.

But they who seek the easy ways,
Those free from strife and test,
Will come to learn all gentle paths
Don’t lead to peace and rest.

Welcome back Goode Reader to this thirteenth incarnation of Dark Sentiments where guilty Truths lurk with malice aforethought to demand the stare of even the most persistently averted eye.

In these many seasons I have come to know that if there is one commonality among those who would come here at all, let alone remain to be permanently soiled by the revelries, it is this: You seek Truth, Facts, and the Wisdom not to confuse the two.

Best not scrub too hard until we’re through. As one kid of my acquaintance was wont to argue in his attempts to stave off bath time, you’ll only get dirty again.

Seize the Day

Follow me! Let’s seize the day!
Come! I’ll lead you all astray!
My straying’s not the evil kind,
Except in someone else’s mind,
But that’s the sort we’ll not invite
And after dark we’ll put them right!
Thought safe in slumbers warm and deep
We’ll ring their bed to watch them sleep
And whisper things in open ears
Until the light of morning nears,
And when it calls them from the bed
They’ll find our note beside their head:
“While you slept we came to call,
“And hardly cut your throat at all!
“Sweetest dreams and toodle-oo
“From all of us to lucky you.”
