We live in a shrill world wherein people burn themselves out attacking others over the holding of beliefs and the expression of personal philosophies that they should really have the good manners to stay the hell out of. So deafening is the din arising from this that too many are losing sight of the fact that there are sound reasons for launching a justifiably ferocious attack,  but those are becoming confused and diluted in a sea of bullshit. To find innumerable examples of this phenomenon one need look no further than facebook, the web based manifestation of an organization that can’t even bring itself to capitalize its own name.

The internet is brimming with all the good and promise that one would expect to result from the intermingling of minds. These speak their truth in the light. The internet is also full of spite and hate spread by bullies and other bottom feeders who get their daily dose of jollies from sewing their particular brand of poison, all from the darkness of perceived anonymity they believe will prevent anyone from ever finding out what rock they’re hiding under. It is to this latter group that I will be directing the attention of the first group today.

Some of these are expressions of immaturity put out by people who’ve grown up in a consequence free world. These believe they are entitled to say or post anything, no matter how depraved, and that others will simply have to put up with it because, hey – it’s legal motherfucker! I call this group the “wee shits”. Spawn of egg and sperm doners who have left it to the rest of us to retroactively deliver the short, sharp, scruff shaking corrections that are supposed to come from parenting. These will get a slap down one day and learn their lesson. Some won’t survive it. Which outcome is no concern of mine.

Still others actually are depraved, and seek to spread their depravity for similar reasons to those of the wee shits, but they need more. Their recipe demands an additional seasoning of evil, for true depravity has a voracious appetite that always needs more of itself, and this appetite will build until it is met with a reason to stop. Permanently.

The day before yesterday I did something I’ve never done before – I reported a facebook page. I did that pursuant to finding out that Mrs. LFM had done the same after a particularly unpleasant page came to light.

The title of the page is Dogs are retarded and so are their owners. Before reporting my complaint to facebook I spent quite a while there, marinating in all the photos, reading the comments posted in reaction to them – pro and con – and looking for insights into the motivation of the administrators of the page.

I move in a circle that understands where the line between honour and indecency is drawn. The creators of pages like this don’t, and while some of the comments directed at their posts are expressions of hope for retribution against them, there are others that offer support.

This is the answer I received by e-mail from facebook in the wake of my report:

Mrs. LFM got an identical answer. Well Viki, if you actually exist as a real, honest to goodness, living and breathing human being instead of an auto reply bot, and you honestly, “… were not able to confirm that the specific page you reported violates Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities,” then you are the only one who can’t. In fairness, perhaps what you actually meant was that you physically couldn’t because you ate some bad sushi and leaving the bathroom long enough to treat my complaint with any seriousness was impossible. Maybe you have the attention span of a cat and reviewing this was just too much … hey look! A moth!

Whatever the reason, I actually did you the courtesy of reading the Statement of Rights and Responsibilities that you generously linked with your reply … several times … and having done that, I’m even more curious now than ever as to how this:

… can be seen as failing to be in violation of your so called “community standards”. That having been said, I am hereby asking for the support of my readers to assist you in reconsidering your organization’s definition of what it means to be violated. To help them, and thereby you, further in this, we at LFM have already done a bit of the digging for you!

First of all, there’s the wee shit going by the name of “Sarah Cohen“. Notwithstanding “her” youthful, cutesy visage, short hair with obligatory cancer reference, and obviously Jewish name, “Sarah” has a disturbingly large number of facebook friends who use pictures of Adolf Hitler or other Nazi imagery in their own profiles:

Our own investigation leads us to believe that whoever is hiding behind that profile is one of those responsible for the Dogs are retarded and so are their owners page as well as these others of a similar ilk:

Each of these presents content that far transcends what is expressed in their titles. Each steps outside the bounds of opinion, and crosses the line into free distribution of images and expressions condoning, if not outright encouraging, animal cruelty. YOU facebook, are enabling this as their platform of choice.

So now, facebook, please clean your glasses and take another look at this. To help you along, I respectfully ask that my good and steadfast readers take action today, and every day after this as necessary, to report the pages I’ve listed here, and any others of similar nature, to bring the power of our outrage to bear on those ultimately responsible for distributing this bullshit – YOU.

You know the expression, “Rightful Indignation”? Well that’s a fire which we must not put out. “Rightful anger” is a direct extension of rightful indignation. It is a burning sensation in the chest and heart and it is a fire which we must not put out.

You  know how it is. It wells up in us when we are witness to some criminal injustice being perpetrated upon some innocent being, animal or  element of nature; or some political hypocrisy. It propels us forward. It elicits a rise in adrenalin, and it is the first step to just about all important actions we  take  in our lives – to ameliorate our planet and its people from suffering and  slavery. Or, it is done in defense of something or someone we feel very close to. Our loved ones, our garden, our small space of sanctuary.
