A Proud Father Speaks

The largest of our Small Fierce Mammals, Viktor, is three years old as of 02:10 Atlantic Daylight Time today. Tall for his age, smart, charming, witty, straight of stance and sound of limb, he’s developed a pattern of behaviour with his female contemporaries that is a wonder to behold. Released into any social setting that includes a number of other children, it takes mere seconds for him to locate and snag himself a pretty girl a year or two older than he is, and enjoy her undivided attention from there on.
Case in point: Yesterday we took him toy shopping and fun having in HRM, and one of our stops was the playground at Dartmouth Crossing. Immediately prior, we’d bought him a Batman themed black hoodie with the yellow and black bat logo proudly emblazoned on the chest, and a hood that contains a built-in fold down mask. He was wearing it with mask deployed as he homed in like a pint sized Don Juan DeMarco on a girl engaged with an assembly of spinning wheels on the other side of the playground. He introduced himself as Batman and immediately that became his name to her as they ran together through walls to climb, slides to slide, things that swung, and benches to sit upon. In that last, and without hesitation, he joined the girl, whose name was Danni, sandwiched between her parents. She introduced him as Batman, her “best friend”. It was then that she asked him his real name but he refused to break character, fixing her with a mysterious look through the one hole in his mask that in that moment still lined up with one of his eyes and said, “I’m Batman”. That’s all it took for complete acceptance, proving as if we still need to prove it that much lies in the delivery.

Happy Birthday Batman
