Dark Sentiments 2015 – Day 6: Fun with Death
Posted By Randy on October 6, 2015
On their YouTube channel’s “about“ page, the “CGBros” describe themselves as, “… relentless curators of the best educational & inspirational examples in CG from around the world ….”
In our relentless search for Dark Sentiments, we’ve found their efforts have more than hit the mark. So, with their aid, for your edification tonight Dear Reader, we offer three short, animated films about Death. Specifically the entity, not so much the event. So well crafted are these marvelous specimens that I’ll spare you any lengthy preamble and dive right in.
First up is Dji Death Fails, produced by a group of Moldovan companies creating CGI films under the name of Simpals Animation Studio. Dji is a recurring character in Simpals productions, described by his creators as, “… a terribly unlucky death who doesn’t seem good at his job.”
Take a look.
Next is Reaping for Dummies, a “… graduation-project made by a group of five students from the 3D design and animation course at Idèfagskolen in Tønsberg Norway. The short film featured here was in production between october 2012 – July 2013.”
This story depicts the travails all trainees face when called upon to serve the public anywhere.
To wrap up tonight’s dark jocularity, I give you Mortys, a production of the Bad Kidow Company of France. Produced in French with English subtitles, Mortys tells the story of a Mother, a Son, and the boy’s attempts to modernize the family business so his Mum can work from home and spend more time with him.
