Unnatural Selection
By LFM
I’ve had a gift these many years
And ken not whence it came.
I cannot claim to guide its ways,
Nor even know its name.
To outward signs, I have good genes,
And carry aging well.
I will admit, I’m all of that,
But something else as well.
It’s not that I don’t age, you see,
It’s that what ages you
Is faster than what ages me.
There’s nothing I can do.
And as the years have passed
Along with people that I’ve known,
I’ve realized some shortened lives
Have broadened out my own.
It doesn’t happen every month,
Nor even every year,
No matter what the timing though,
It happens, never fear.
It always starts the very same –
A love or friendship sours,
And from my depths of enmity
It picks who it devours.
They’ll never find a cure for me,
Nor potion to arrest.
They’ll whizzen up and waste away,
While I still look my best.
Hahahah!
I married a wizard 😉
But such a YOUTHFUL wizard!
Dang, that's a morbid poem. I think you married a crazy wizard…..hmm, have to add that to the ever growing list of AKA's, e.g., EFF, Sword Hero, Crazy Wizard…….:)
All who call you friend will never fear you … Ya Medieval ankle twisting Wizard !
