“And I wish to add here in all seriousness that whatever may be your scruples against the use of liquors, don’t go into the woods without whisky—rye or Scotch, according to preference. Alcohol, of course, is good for poison ivy, but whisky is better. Maybe it is because of the drugs that wicked men are said to put into it. Besides, whisky has other uses. The guides told us of one perfectly rigid person who, when he had discovered that whisky was being included in his camp supplies, had become properly incensed, and commanded that it be left at home. The guides had pleaded that he need not drink any of it, that they would attend to that part of what seemed to them a necessary camp duty, but he was petrified in his morals, and the whisky remained behind.
“Well, they struck a chilly snap, and it rained. It was none of your little summer landscape rains, either. It was a deadly cold, driving, drenching saturation. Men who had built their houses on the sand, and had no whisky, were in a bad fix. The waves rose and the tents blew down, and the rigid, fossilized person had to be carried across an overflowed place on the back of a guide, lifting up his voice meanwhile in an effort to convince the Almighty that it was a mistake to let it rain at this particular time, and calling for whisky at every step.

Today marks arrival of the first real Winter storm of any severity to land hereabouts, and naturally, “essential supplies” are much on everyone’s mind. It should therefore come as no surprise that today we’ll be talking about whisky/whiskey; or rather, someone who makes it his business to talk about it.
Back on 25 September 2016, I introduced you to our Friend, The Whiskey Cowboy. and today I’ll expand on that introduction with an exposé of the Gentleman’s recent expansion into podcasts. Titled Breaking Leather, as of this writing, there have been two expressions, also shared on his YouTube channel. We strongly recommend that if you have an interest in uisge-beatha, or are considering exploring it, you give this Man a listen.
The tagline of his website reads, “thoughts, experiences, life, liberty, libations “, and nothing has changed, which is to say that’s a good thing, and while whiskey/whisky is a primary focus, he promises discussions ranging over such subjects as, “… whiskey, politics, religion, social issues, current events, and more ….”

Thank you! Though you had insider information as to the new show name. lol My first couple shows are rougher than I would like, but I will be smoothing them out, like fine whiskey as I plot along. I hope folks enjoy the shows and tune in for future shows. I am currently working on tomorrow’s show, which will be quite the ride.
For those unfamiliar with the term “breaking leather” (The new name for the show.), it is the act of drawing a pistol from its leather holster. I have often said that if anyone saw me out and about and I broke leather, they should find cover, because things were going to get rough. Well, it suits the show….. since I will be breaking leather on a good many topics. Cheers!
You are most welcome Goode Sir! Truth be told, I didn’t exploit insider knowledge, it was far sneakier than that. The “Breaking Leather” byline appears on the podcast site right th’ now!
As to the matter of doling out penalty points for self-perceived “unnecessary roughness”, any of us who set out to create anything of value start rougher than we’d like, and as often as not on looking back from a while down the road, are not unlike Pig Pen in the Charlie Brown Christmas special. Told he was, “… an absolute mess …” and shown his own face in a mirror, he replied, “On the contrary. I didn’t think I looked THAT good.”
It’s been my experience that the pikers think their outcomes are unassailably perfect from the get go. To once again quote my Esteemed High School English Teacher, Paul Brison, “Works of art are never finished. They’re abandoned.”
LOL Fair enough. When I wrote that, I had forgotten I had prepped the podcast site already, in advance of the actual show name change with the upcoming show. Working too hard. 😉
